Schedule Changes
Schedule Changes:
The following changes are being made to accommodate the Ardmore Cup Schedule as there is a conflict with a few back to back games if the HSL schedule stays as it is right now. We can adjust our schedule, the Ardmore Cup can not. Time and space is too limited. Schedule WAS: Wednesday, Jan 13th: 9pm - CCNG vs. Hfx Hurricanes (Neither team playing in Ardmore Cup) 10pm - Reliant vs. Pogue (Both teams playing in Ardmore Cup) 11pm - United vs. DU-Chard (United not playing in Ardmore Cup and DU-Chard playing on Monday Jan 11th.) Thursday, Jan 14th: 10pm - Source vs. Armview 11pm - H.C. Predators vs. CHSC * Source, Armview and CHSC all play on Friday, Jan. 15th in the Ardmore Cup. To accommodate no back to back games, the following changes will occur: ** CHANGES ** Schedule IS CHANGED TO: Wed., Jan 13th: 9pm - Source vs. Armview 10pm - Reliant vs. Pogue (Both teams playing in Ardmore Cup) Stays the same. 11pm - H.C. Slides vs. Slide Tackles - Indoor
Hi folks,
Here is a note from the Referee's association and Soccer Nova Scotia. Please read and understand the rule fully. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact one of the members of the HSL Board. To: All Indoor Registered Referee 09/10 CC: All Indoor Leagues, James Keast, Chief Assessor, Norma Horne, Chair of Referee Ethics Referees and leagues - Indoor Soccer Sliding and the Slide Tackle December 15, 2009 Due to recent developments and questions, the referee Judiciary Committee has directed that all referees and leagues once again be informed/reminded of sliding and how it is to be interpreted for indoor soccer. The rule states: “slide tackles or attempts to slide tackle (Sliding without attempt to contact the opposing player shall not be considered a slide tackle). (Goalkeepers are allowed to slide within their area in an attempt to play the ball as long as it is not done in a dangerous or reckless manner)” Directions: - Goalkeepers may slide to save the ball if not done in a reckless manner. - Falling down is not sliding. - Players may go down to play the ball. They may slide to keep the ball in play. - Players may not slide, go down (play with any part other than the feet on the ground) to tackle or dispossess the opponent of the ball. Play in this fashion will be termed – slide tackling. - A slide tackle is a foul. - Should a slide tackle be carried out and contact made with the opponent, a caution for unsporting behaviour shall be issued. - Serious foul play may still be the determination should that be the observation of the referee. Exhibition Park – Halifax This facility has boards and is therefore different from our ‘Soccer only’ turf fields. Safe play is difficult to manage. At present – Referee are not to permit sliding at this facility. A player is to remain on their feet to play the ball. Falling is not sliding – the referee must make decisions in this regard. The rule relating to sliding at Exhibition Park is under review with the league and referees will be informed should changes, to come more into line with the above statements, be made. League Announcement (Nov 16th/09)
Team Reps,
A few points that I need to address as they are still not being met by ALL teams: - Please remember that the HSL needs to have scores updated onto the league website within 48hrs of completion of the game. If you do not, this will constitute in a 0 - 0 Draw with NEITHER team earning points. - Please remember that the HSL needs to have game sheets faxed into the league within 48hrs of completion of the game. If you do not, this will constitute in a 0 - 0 Draw with NEITHER team earning points. IF for what ever reason you are unable to do so (no access to a fax machine ect...), YOU MUST contact Bill Perry via e-mail ( hsl-president@soccerhalifax.com ) and inform him right after the game via e-mail with the game results in the body of the e-mail. - When faxing the game sheet, please circle your team's name so we know who's game sheet we are receiving. - Winning AND Loosing teams are BOTH expected to fax the game sheets into the league so that we can verify that information on BOTH game sheets from BOTH teams are accurate and identical. - You MUST press hard enough on the game sheet to make sure it goes through all 3 copies. - You MUST remember to wait and pick up your game sheet from the referee after the game. There have been too many game sheets left at the SNS facility beside the benches or in the locker room already and the season is only 2 games in per team. - Your team MUST have 2 reps that have access to the "Coach/Manager" section of the game sheet for inputting scores. This will help resolve the times when your team rep can't make the game or is out of town ... etc... etc... these excuses are no longer going to be tolerated. All the above MUST be followed by each and every team for the remainder of this and every season moving forward until notified to do something different. IF these points are not met, it causes more work for the executive, and there is no need of it. If you do not follow the above mentioned points, you risk your teams admittance to future seasons. *** PLESE NOTE: I will be reviewing all the game sheets I have received over the weekend of November 20th - 22nd. If I am missing any game sheets and have not been contacted by the team rep with a valid reason for a delay it will constitute in a 0 - 0 Draw with NEITHER team earning points. *** *** PLEASE NOTE: Most leagues do not give this kind of a warning, they just take the points away. It is clearly stated on our game sheets that we need the website updated and game sheets faxed in or your game will constitute in a 0 - 0 Draw with NEITHER team earning points. Because teams are not following the rules we now must police the league with harsher results if rules aren't followed. *** No one is perfect and mistakes will happen, but with a bit of work on YOUR part, these points will become 2nd nature and we will not have to address them again. We are doing our part to have a great soccer league for you to participate in, please do YOUR part to keep it smooth and simple. If you as a team rep do NOT do your part in helping to make the league run smoothly, then you will have to face and deal with the consequences listed above. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Regards, ~Bill Perry HSL - President

Playoffs & Hubley Cup
As the regular season draws to a conclusion, there has been numerous questions on playoffs, etc.
Times are extremely limited in the month of August. Top 8 will play in the league playoffs. The next 8 (9 to 16) will play in the Hubley Cup. Both competitions are single elimination. Provincials will be held in Halifax this summer August 29th and 30th. At the moment our league is guaranteed to have 3 spots with the 4th spot playing off versus a Valley opponent. Top 3 spots are determined by regular season placements as always. The 4th place team will play off against Valley. We do not have the turf time available to do a playoff for the wild card spot as was done in 2008. If there's any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the league executives.
Tie Breaker Rules
As per HSL rules & Regs League standings will be determined by:
a) points, b) head to head (if more then two teams are tied its total points for games played against each other), c) most wins, d) goal differential, e) goals for, f) goals against, g) coin toss.

Spring League & Website info
Spring League & Website info
* Team reps, please check the contact list in the downloads section and ensure it is accurate * Hey all, Spring league starts tonight as of 1pm today team rosters have been posted to the website according to the provincial IT system. Please check your rosters on the website, confirm with your registrar that they have uploaded all of your players then advise the league of any issues. As with the indoor season it is now league policy that ALL players are not only listed on the website but are also accompanied by a picture. All players pictures must be uploaded no later than noon on April 25th. That gives team reps 3 games to take pictures of your players. Any players who play without a picture on the website will be treated as illegal and a forfeit loss will be applied. It is the team reps responsibility to ensure that their team roster on the website is accurate, if you have ANY concerns please contact a member of the executive who will be more than happy to help. The executive have created a new category on the website under the league info>file downloads tab where we will be posting instructions on how to use the website. Currently there are instructions on how to submit scores however further instructions will follow, specifically how to load pictures and call-up players. . This is predominantly for new teams however we may all find it useful at some point. For those of you who haven’t paid your dues in full can you please make arrangements to see Damien; the league has to pay for turf fees in advance so we need to collect funds ASAP. Unlike in past years Gamesheets will be brought to the games and filled out by team reps as they are for Summer and Indoor. Bill will be at the 8pm games tonight and will bring extras for those of you who don’t have any. Please ensure that you fill the gamesheet out in their entirety and fax them into the league no more than 48hs after game completion (fax #443-0849). Cards/Discipline Clarification - Updated Jul 30th
Team Reps,
There has been some question over whether or not a player who received his 3rd or 5th yellow card (or a red, all of which resulting in a suspension) should have to serve their suspension in the League Championship/Hubley Cup. The Executive has convened and determined the following: 1. Any suspensions that are handed out by the HSL's discipline committee as a result of a misconduct report that cannot be fully served in the regular season will be served in either the Hubley Cup or the League Championship. Misconduct reports are usually for serious offences and punishments should carry over from one competition to another, as stated in the official league suspension: "player must not participate in any SNS related activities." 2. Any player that received a 3rd or 5th yellow card (or red that did not generate a misconduct report ie: 2 yellows) in the final game of the season will be suspended for the next game of the competition that they received the card ie: next summer season. 3. ALL yellow cards will be erased for the commencement of the League Championship/Hubley Cup. However; previous actions will be considered (ie: repeat offenders) for any misconduct reports filed during the post season competitions. All games are being posted. There could be some changes over the next week, so PLEASE be sure to check on a regular basis until a final copy is posted.
Provincial Spots
Soccer NS competition committee has changed the number of teams delegated to the provincials slightly. Our league is still guaranteed 3 spots to the tournament. However our league has been given a 4th wild card spot to play off against the 2nd place coming from the Valley League to determine the final provincial spot.
With the change, as per minutes from the May 2008 meeting, the top 3 spots from the regular season standings will be given the automatic berth into the tournament. The 4th and 5th place team will play a 2 game aggregate score series. The winner of this series will play the 2nd place Valley team. The executives is working on the schedule. Although nothing is set, the Competition Committee expects the wild card game to be held on August 19th probably at Weir Field. Men B provincials this year is held in the South Shore on August 23rd and 24th.
Registration Deadline
Please note registration deadline to sign new players is June 30th.
Game Changes
Please note the league decided to move two games on June 13th and June 19th. We wanted teams to avoid a three games in four nights scenario and that was what occured for Celtic Metros and Formation Halifax with the current scheduling.
June 19th game (Formation Halifax v HC Predators) is now moved to July 27th 11am at Dalhousie. June 13th game (Coconut Grove v Celtic Metros) is now moved to July 27th 1pm at Dalhousie. For the affected teams, please advise your members accordingly. Thank you.

Nova Scotia Senior Men's 2nd Division Provincials
Nova Scotia Senior Men's 2nd Division Provincials (Results).
After a long weekend of Provincial qualifying games our HSL teams played hard fought games as best they could and two of our three teams made it through to the final round. Source played against Berwick for the bronze medal and Alumni Rigbound played against Quiet Thunder for the Gold. * I did not get a chance to what the Source v. Berwick game, but was able to find out that Source lost to Berwick in their match and finished in 4th. Unlucky gentlemen, but great work all season and in the tournament. In the finals, Alumni Rigbound found them selves down 1 to Quiet Thunder at the half. Trevor Chisolm did his best to keep Quiet Thunder's first goal out with an diving save on the first shot, and then got a piece of a second shot from the top of the six yard box to keep the ball out of the net for the second time, but on the third shot (also from inside the 6), Quiet Thunder managed to slip a ball past Chisolm's reach to take the lead. (Halftime score - Alumni Rigbound - 0, Quiet Thunder - 1.) Shortly into the second half, Jeff Hibberts had a ball sent to him, from Geoff Axell, behind his defender, somehow, Hibberts managed to get get a shot off on Quiet Thunder's Keeper, and dropped in the back of the net to tie things up. Quiet Thunder had an opportunity take the lead roughly half-way through the 2nd half on a hand-ball by full back, Steve Cormier. Cormier was ejected from the game, I was told, due to a comment that had been made on his part. Alumni Rigbound played the remainder of the game down one man. Quiet Thunder scored a penalty shot to take a 2 - 1 lead. With roughly 10 - 15 minutes left in the game, a Quiet Thunder defender was called for a hand ball in the box to give Alumni Rigbound a chance to tie things up again with some time left on the clock. Axell, steped up to take the penalty shot and capitalized with a goal. The game ended in a 2 - 2 tie, which meant 2 full 15 minute halfs were to be played to detirmine a winner. Both teams were digging deep for that last bit of energy after a long weekend of games, but neither team was able to capitalize in the 1st or 2nd half of the over times, which meant penalty shots. As one fan said, "...it's been the Trevor Chisolm show all game, so why would this be any different?". Although both teams managed to score 4 of 5 shots, on Quiet in the first round. Thunder's 6th shot (first of the elimination round), they pushed it wide of the net on Chisolm's right side. The 6th shooter for Alumni (Glen MacDougal), stepped up and slipped his shot past the Quiet Thunder Keeper to win the Nova Scotia Senior Men's 2nd Division Provincials. I don't know if it was announced or not, but in my opinion, I would have to agree with the fan who praised Trevor Chisolm's play, by giving him the "Player of the Game" award (if there was one this year). Well done all weekend and all season in this years Regular season play. With 46 points this year, they managed to finish 1st over all with a 19 - 3 - 1 record for the regular season, a 2 - 0 win over Source Security in the finals of the League Playoffs and then to finish the season with a win at Provincials after only 2 seasons in the league is quite an accomplishment! Congratulations Gentlemen!! Regards, Bill Perry HSL - President.

Leauge Update (07/27/05)
League Update:
From the desk of the HSL executives: Folks, The regular season is soon coming to an end. Most teams have roughly 3 to 4 games remaining. This year has been quite competitve The top 4 spots are up for grabs for the Provincials. The top 6 spots will play for the league championship. With the exception of the bottom few, mathematically many of the teams still have a chance for one of the 6 spots. The race for the provincial spots are tight. Rockingham and Pogue Fado holding on to the 3rd and 4th spot currently but with 6 teams chasing them every game coming up will be crucial. Reminder that at the end of the regular season the 7th to 18th place teams will play in a Cup tournament. The format was communicated to the team reps present at the last meeting. Also, please update your scores as soon as possible so the administrator can get working on the playoff schedule. Good luck on the pitch.

League Meeting May 24th
** League Meeting May 24th **
There will be a pre-summer league meeting on May 24th at 7pm at Daltech (large room). It is important that ALL teams have a representative at that meeting. The league will begin to implement a demerit system starting this summer season. Demerits will be calculated based on various items like forfeits, playing illegal players, not having a representative at league meetings, etc. It's a good start/practice on getting your rep to the meeting. We ask that you avoid doing double representation (ie: I represent both DU-Hubley and DU-Chard tonight). The demerit system will be discussed in more details at the meeting. The following will be the payment schedule set out for the summer season. By now, all teams have paid at least $200 for the deposit. $1300 is owed by the following deadlines. $500 due week of May 29th $400 due week of June 19th $400 due week of July 10th If there's any questions, please drop me an e-mail. Indoor Schedule 2004/05
The HSL 2004 Indoor Schedule has been posted on line for the months of November/04 & December/04. Please have a look and know when you are scheduled to play. ** Remainder of schedule to be up very soon. **
Indoor Season - 2004/05
The HSL's indoor season is scheduled to start on Nov. 1st at The Subway Indoor Facility in Clayton Park. The days and times are a bit different from last year's schedule due to a high demand by clubs and Tier 1 level leagues. You will notice that most of our games are going to be played on Mondays and Wednesdays with the odd game on Fridays and Sundays. Our hours are going to be 9pm - 11pm start times this year as oppose to the start time of 7pm that we were spoiled with last year. ** The main reason for this is because parents of youth teams requested earlier start times, which just makes sense. So we are not getting "left over times", we are simply helping to accommodate with the available times.
Schedule will be posted soon. There will be a hard copy of the schedule provided to all team reps at the Meeting that we have scheduled for October 13th at 7pm at Tuns, as per usual. (Please note the time change from 8pm to 7pm) IF YOU ARE PLAYING IN THE INDOOR LEAGUE, YOU MUST HAVE TEAM REPRESENTATION WITH A $300.00 DEPOSIT. ALL OUTSTANDING BILLS ALSO NEED TO BE PAID UP AT THIS TIME.
Nova Scotia Senior Men's B Provincial Championships 2004

Division A Athens, Hurricanes, Chester and New Ross. Division B Scotia, Rockingham, Quiet Thunder and Berwick Finishing top overall taking the GOLD was Athens by defeating Quiet Thunder while Scotia brought home the BRONZE by defeating New Ross. Great weekend by all, and great showing by teams from the HSL as always! Well Done folks! Now lets get ready for indoor!
League Playoffs
On August 22nd at Wier field, there were two games scheduled. The Halifax Hurricanes vs. Africa United for 3rd and 4th spot in the playoffs and Athens vs. Rockingham for 1st and 2nd place in the playoffs.
Africa United was unable to field a team. This meant the Hurricanes finished 3rd in the playoffs due to a forfeit win. The Rockingham vs. Athens game finished in a 3-1 win for Athens. It was a fun game to watch and lots of action. Goal Scorers were: for Rockingham - Dan Mason (Golden boot winner) and for Athens - Geoff Axel, Desi Lambert and Stephen Hart. Thanks for another great summer season everyone. Good luck in provincials.
League Leading Goal Scorer - Summer 2004
Dan mason has been an original memeber of the Rockingham Raiders since the
team was established in summer of 2001. He lead the HSL with 17 goals this season. His next goal is to help Rockingham to its first Provincial Championship.

Provincial Info - 2004
The Sr. Men's 'B' 2004 Nova Scotia Provincial Championships will be held in the South Shore (Bridgewater) from September 4th - 6th.
The following teams will be attending the Nova Scotia 2004 Provincial Championships from the Halifax Soccer League: 1st - Athen's 2nd - *Scotia 3rd - *Rockingham 4th - Hurricanes * - Please note, on the website, Scotia is ranked 3rd and Rockingham is ranked 2nd due to goal differential... The league reps had said that standings would be detirmined by "Head to Head" games first, if still tied, then goal differential... Scotia beat Rockingham during the regular season, so the seedings should actually be: 1 - Athen's 2 - Scotia 3 - Rockingham 4 - Hurricanes. Sorry for any confusion! Good luck to all teams participating in this summer's Second Division Provincials.

Phil Hubley passed away on Monday July 12th due to complications resulting from a motor vehicle accident in Prince Edward Island. He was currently the coach for one of the two Dartmouth United teams in the HSL. From his immediate family, he leaves behind his Wife Denise and his two sons Brad and Richard. Also, two sisters: Gwyneth and Judy; Mother in law: Jeanne; sisters in law: Joanne and Ruth; brothers in law: Louis Jean, Marc and Claude and 16 nieces and nephews. Phil has been heavily active in the Dartmouth United Soccer club for many years which is how we knew him best. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home - 771 Main St. in Dartmouth.
